Bullfrogs Add Three More for 2010

(Green Bay, WI) The Green Bay Bullfrogs have signed two infielders and one utility player for the upcoming season. The Bullfrogs signed Tim Carver (Arkansas), Brad Zapenas (Boston College) and Scott Schebler (Des Moines Area Community College).

Carver has played in 39 games and started 38 of the games he has played in for the Razorback. He is fifth on the team with a batting average of .310. Carver has 10 doubles and three home runs. He has driven in 30 RBI on the year. Carver is perfect on the season on stolen bases going eight for eight.

As a freshman, Carver was one of the best infielders on the team, and has the ability to play second, shortstop and third base. Carver hit .237 in the SEC tournament and had three multi-hit games. He also appeared in two College World Series games for Arkansas.

Carver helped his high school to back-to-back state championships in 2006 and 2007 at Fayetteville. He was a two-time All-Conference selection and as a senior he earned First Team All-State.

Schebler has started all 46 games for Des Moines Area Community College and have helped them to a 39-7 record. He is fourth on the team with a batting average of .448. Schebler is second on the team with doubles 19 and leads the team in drawing walks with 18. He is tied for the team lead with 12 home runs and fourth on the team with 59 RBI. Schebler is four for five in stolen bases.

After one year at DMACC, Schebler is transferring to Wichita State University after signing a National letter-of-intent with the Shockers.

Zapenas, a sophomore at Boston College, is batting .277 on the season for the Eagles. He has started all 41 games for Boston College on the season. Zapenas has nine RBI on the season and has hit three doubles and one triple. He has stolen three bases.

Zapenas started 52 games as a freshman for the Eagles. Most of the starts came at second base but injuries to the Eagles, moved him to shortstop later in the season. He led the ACC with 12 sacrifices on the season.

In high school, Zapenas was the Gatorade New Hampshire Player of the Year as a senior. He was also New Hampshire Class L Player of the Year and Player of the Year from the Nashua Telegraph, New Hampshire Union Leader and Louisville Slugger.

The Bullfrogs are scheduled to open their season on June 2 against the Battle Creek Bombers at 6:35 P.M. at Joannes Baseball Stadium in Green Bay. Astor Signs with Bucks

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced that first basemen Jake Astor will be joining the team for the 2010 season. Currently, Astor is a junior at Southern Arkansas University and is the 18th player to sign with the Bucks for the summer.

This season for the Muleriders, Astor is hitting .381 with two home runs and 36 RBI. In 38 games, the left-handed hitter has an on-base percentage of .553 and has five stolen bases.

In 2009 for Des Moines Area Community College, Astor hit .444 with 14 home runs and 79 RBI. Astor set seven school records and was named the 2009 ABCA NJCAA Division II Baseball Player of the Year. The Iowa City West High School product also received First-Team All-American honors and was a First-Team selection on the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference All-Region team.

Last summer, Astor played for the Wilson Tobs of the Coastal Plain League, leading his team in hitting with a .290 average and finished in the top five in the league’s on-base percentage race with a .426 mark. This will be Astor’s first season with Waterloo.

Originally from North Liberty, Iowa, the 5′11″, 200-pounder was born on August 21, 1989.

Two More Commit to Bullfrogs

(Green Bay, WI) The Bullfrogs have announced the signing of two players for the 2010 season. With these two signings, the Bullfrogs have seven players on the roster. Infielders Paul Hoenecke (UW-Milwaukee) and Joel Hutter (Des Moines Area CC) are rejoining the Bullfrogs after playing with Green Bay last summer.

A native of Kewaskum, Wisconsin, Hoenecke returns to Green Bay after a successful summer in 2009. He had the highest batting average of the Bullfrogs, hitting .285. Hoenecke drove in 25 runs and belted two home runs and 10 doubles for the Bullfrogs in 2009.

Hoenecke, a sophomore, is currently leading the Panthers of UW-Milwaukee in batting average (.373), hits (19), and runs batted in (RBI) (10). In 2009, his freshman year, Hoenecke batted .286 with three home runs and 30 RBIs.

Hutter, a sophomore at Des Moines Area Community College, has helped lead his team to an 8-1 record to start the 2010 season. He has started all nine games for the Bears. Hutter is batting .324 with one home run and 14 RBI in the start of the 2010 season.

With the Bullfrogs in 2009, Hutter appeared in 53 games, had 41 hits in 182 at-bats and batted .225. In the 41 at-bats, Hutter recorded one home run and nine doubles. He also registered 17 RBIs.
