Two More Return to MoonDogs

Friday, February 26th, 2010

(Mankato, MN)– The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club are enthusiastic to announce the signing of two more returning players as they fill their opening day roster. Left-handed pitcher Alex Burgos (State College of Florida) and infielder Troy Larson (University of Minnesota) were key contributors to the MoonDogs success last season.

Burgos, a 5’11’’ 170 lb. sophomore, had a stand-out season with the MoonDogs, tying for second in wins with four and had an ERA of 1.80 over 50 innings pitched. Last season Burgos was third amongst pitchers in appearances with 17. One of these appearances was an outstanding relief win against Waterloo, posting seven strike outs in four innings, winning 1-0.

Last season with State College of Florida Alex recorded three wins, 47 strike outs, in 55.2 innings pitched.

Field Manager Mike Orchard said, “Once he got acclimated he was one of our best pitchers. He pitched without fear, and could spin a nice breaking ball.”

Larson, a 6’0’’ 175 lb. red shirt freshman, had a productive 17 game showing last year with a .292 batting average. Larson’s performance last season with the MoonDogs earned him a full-time spot on the team for the 2010 summer.

“Larson earned a spot on the team by understanding the game, providing quality at bats, and doing the right thing on the field,” commented Orchard.

At Hill-Murray High School (Maplewood, MN) Larson earned All-State and All-Metro recognition during his senior season.

The Mankato MoonDogs Home Opener is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2 at 7:05 against the Rochester Honkers. Single game tickets will go on sale in early May. Season tickets are now on sale at the new MoonDogs office located 1221 Caledonia Street. Two Mavericks Return to MoonDogs

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

(Mankato, MN)– The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club  is excited to announce the signing of two players for the 2010 season. Outfielder Danny Miller and pitcher Ryan Demmin, currently playing for Minnesota State, Mankato (Mankato, MN), have committed to a summer of baseball with the MoonDogs.

Miller, a 6’1’’ 180lb. junior, led the MoonDogs last season in RBI’s with 29 and walks with 53. A regular in the MoonDogs line-up, Miller played in 63 games, and had 209 at-bats, both good for second on the team.

For this upcoming 2010 season, Miller has been selected to be a team captain for the Mavericks squad.

Last season with MSU, Miller had high production, leading the team with 10 homeruns. The All-NSIC First Team player had 43 RBI’s, a .351 batting average, and 61 hits. Miller, a native of Eden Prairie, MN, has been named to the NSIC players to watch list for the 2010 season. In the 2009 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship game Miller provided the run producing, game-winning single which propelled the Mavericks to the NCAA Division II tournament.

Coach Mike Orchard said, “Danny can be very versatile for us since he plays the outfield and first base and look forward to having the returning all-star.”

Last season, Demmin was named the starting pitcher to the Northwoods League Postseason All-star team, with a 1.36 ERA, good for second best in the league. Demmin, a 6’1’’ 210lb. senior, will be playing his second season with the MoonDogs. This Oshkosh, WI, native led the MoonDogs last season in innings pitched with 79.2, strike-outs with 72, and tied for the team lead in wins with 5.

This will be Demmin’s first season with the Mavericks, as he transfers from UW-Oshkosh. Last season at Oshkosh, Demmin posted a 4-4 record, while leading the team with 55 strike-outs.

“He is a leader, top of the rotation guy for us and had an incredible season. It will be a challenge to be as good as he was last year, because he did such a great job,” complimented Coach Orchard.

The Mankato MoonDogs Home Opener is scheduled for Wednesday, June 2 at 7:05 against the Rochester Honkers. Single game tickets will go on sale in early May. Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

(Mankato, MN)–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club is proud to announce the return of Jason Belk of St. Ambrose University (Davenport, IA). Belk was an assistant last year for the MoonDogs under Mike Orchard.

“I am happy to have Jason back,” Mike Orchard said. “I know his attention to detail and his commitment to make pitchers better. He was very professional and the players responded well to him last season.”

Belk is a 2008 graduate of the University of Iowa, and a former pitcher for the MoonDogs during the 2006 season. He had a 1-1 record in 20 appearances with a 2.33 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 38.2 innings pitched in Mankato. Belk is currently finishing up his Masters Degree at St. Ambrose and will graduate in May of 2010.

“I am excited to be back in Mankato for another season. I have been around the town and the people for over two seasons and feel comfortable here,” Belk said. “We had a great pitching staff last year and I am looking forward to another great season in 2010.”

In 2009 with Belk’s help the MoonDogs cracked the Top 10 in three single season pitching categories. The 2.50 ERA marked the best ERA in MoonDog history and was fifth place on the NWL list. The Dogs tied for eighth all-time in strikeouts with 519 and tied for ninth in shutouts with eight. Also, the MoonDogs pitching staff allowed a franchise-low 228 runs and 176 earned runs. The Dogs finished second in the league in strikeouts, but their mark of 519 on the year was also a franchise best.

The MoonDogs open the 2010 season on June 2 against the Honkers. Season tickets are now on sale at the MoonDogs baseball office located at 1221 Caledonia Street. For more information visit the MoonDogs website at www.mankatomoondogs.com or call the MoonDogs Office at 507-625-7047.
