The Thunder Bay Border Cats are very pleased to announce the signing of a two-year extenstion with SUBWAY Restaurants as corporate and title sponsor of the Cats home ballpark SUBWAY FIELD through the 2013 season.
“SUBWAY Restaurants is very proud of our relationship with the Border Cats and is thrilled to extend our naming rights partnership of SUBWAY FIELD for another two seasons,” stated Lisa-Marie Buccini, SUBWAY Marketing Manager-Western Canada. “Our brands are both synonymous with community as well as bringing the highest quality services to the people of Thunder Bay,” Buccini added.
Border Cats Owner/President Brad Jorgenson is very excited to extend the agreement that started at the beginning of the 2010 season with the re-naming of Port Arthur Stadium to SUBWAY FIELD. “This shows the commitment that both the Border Cats and SUBWAY have of ensuring quality family entertainment with Northwoods League baseball in Thunder Bay,” stated Jorgenson.
The Border Cats, celebrating their 10th anniversary season, play their 2012 home opener at SUBWAY FIELD on Monday, June 4th, at 7:05 p.m. against the Alexandria Beetles.

(Thunder Bay, ON) The Thunder Bay Border Cats announced today the signing of five players for the 2010 season including two Canadians. Joining the two-time NWL Champions are outfielder Tanner Nivins from Kitchener, ON and catcher Will Thorp of Surrey, BC. In addition, the Cats have also signed pitchers Brad Delatte, Michael Woytek and John Tatum. The Cats roster includes a franchise record eight Canadian born players.
Nivins is 5′10″, 190 pound freshman at New York’s Stonybrook University and was named Ontario Junior Player of the Year in 2005. Nivins has played in 47 games this season and is batting .297 with eight home runs and 44 runs batted in.
Thorp is sophomore at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho, one of the top NAIA baseball programs in the country. In 35 games this season, the 6′0″, 175 pound backstop is hitting .259 with one home run and 11 RBI’s.
Delatte is a sophomore at Nicolls State University in Louisiana, where he is a teammate of Border Cats pitcher Drew Erwin. The 6′0″, 180 pound left-handed reliever has appeared in 23 games and has a 3-2 record with four saves and a 4.26 earned run average. Delatte, who hails from St. Amant, LA., has recorded 27 strikeouts in 25.1 innings.
Woytek is a 6′4″, 220 pound righthander from Dublin, OH. He is currently a junior at Wright State University in Dayton, OH. In 13 games for the Raiders this spring, Woytek is 1-1 with a 7.12 ERA.
Tatum is also a big righthander at 6′4″, 220 pounds. The native of Lufkin, TX played this past season in Texas at Angelina College. Tatum will be a junior this fall when he moves to McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA.
The Cats have also inked four players to 10-day tryout contracts. Pitcher Cody Connors of Ridgewater College, infielder Ty Wosleger of Fairfield University, pitcher Jason Wierschke and infielder Nick Beaman, both from Ripon College.
The Border Cats open the 2010 Northwoods League season at Port Arthur Stadium on June 2, at 6:35 p.m. against the Duluth Huskies.

(Thunder Bay, ON) The Thunder Bay Border Cats announced today the signing of seven players, raising the 2010 roster to 23. Joining the two-time NWL Champions are outfielders Tyler Pryor and Ken Battison, infielders Trevor Gee and Brett Doe, catcher Taylor Honeycutt, and pitchers Jorge Rodriguez and Zak Miller.
Pryor, a 5′10″, 160 pound junior from Fresno, CA plays his collegiate ball in his hometown at Fresno Pacific University. The left-handed hitting outfielder has played 48 games this season and is batting .439 with eight home runs and 50 runs batted in. Pryor, who was recently named to the Golden State all conference team leads the Sunbirds in batting average and doubles with 21.
Battison is a 6′0″, 210 pounder from West Milton, OH and is a junior at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. In 44 games this season, Battison is batting .274 with four home runs and 21 RBI’s. He also leads the club with nine stolen bases.
Honeycutt is a junior from Indian Trail, NC and plays in his home state at Wingate University. The 6′2″, 185 pound backstop has played in 41 games this season and is hitting .179 with three home runs and 19 runs batted in.
Gee hails from Glendale, CA and is a sophomore at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. The 6′0″, 200 pound utility infielder has played in 13 games for the Lions and is batting .162 with three RBI’s.
Rodriguez is a 6′0″, 180 pound lefthander from Duncanville, TX. and is currently in his freshman season at Seminole State College in Oklahoma. Rodriguez has appeared in 15 games this spring where he has a 0-0 record with three saves and a 6.88 earned run average.
Miller is the sixth Canadian born player to sign with the Cats. The 6′3″, 200 pound righthander is a native of Surrey, BC.
Doe is a 5′11, 170 pound shortstop from Mesquite, TX. Miller and Doe are both redshirt freshman at the University of New Mexico.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats officially announced today the signing of Thunder Bay pitcher Eric Brown for the 2010 season. In addition, the Cats have also signed three other Canadian pitchers in Corey Pappel, Paul Barton, and Nathan Kennedy.
Brown played locally in the Port Arthur Nationals Little League and Northwest Slam baseball programs. The 6′1″, 185 pound righthander is currently in his junior season at the University of British Columbia where the Thunderbirds just captured the United States NAIA West playoff championship. In 12 games this spring, Brown has a 7-1 record with a 3.47 earned run average. The Hammarskjold High School graduate has been in the T-Birds starting rotation all season and has one complete game with 48 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched.
Pappel is a highly touted prospect and a former member of the Canadian National junior team. The 6′6″, 225 pound junior at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine’s all-academic team in the Ivy League. The righthander from Mississauga, ON is 2-2 for the Big Red this season with a 3.71 ERA. Pappel has made nine starts with one complete game and 52 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched.
Barton is a freshman at Panola Junior College in Carthage, TX, where he is a teammate of Border Cats infielder Evan Mistich. The 6′3″, 205 pound righthander has pitched in 15 games and has a 6-2 record with a 3.29 earned run average. Barton, from Qualicum Beach, BC, has made 11 starts for the Ponies with 60 strikeouts in 52 innings pitched and one complete game shutout.
Kennedy is a 6′1″, 180 pounder from Guelph, ON and is currently in his sophomore season at Grayson County College in Denison, TX. Kennedy has appeared in 14 games for the Vikings and is 3-0 with a 3.69 ERA. The righthander has struck out 35 batters in 24.1 innings of work.
The Border Cats open their eighth Northwoods League season at home on June 2, at 6:35pm against the Duluth Huskies at Port Arthur Stadium.

(Thunder Bay, Canada) The Thunder Bay Border Cats announced today the signing of four players for the 2010 season. Joining the two-time NWL Champions are second baseman
Evan Mistich, (Miss-titch), outfielder Jay Laurienzo, and pitchers Matt White and Freddy Lewis.
Mistich, a 6′0″, 190 pound sophomore at Panola Junior College in Carthage, TX, has played in 47 games for the Ponies this season and is batting .338. The Houma, LA native leads the team with 10 home runs and 46 runs batted in.
Laurienzo plays his collegiate ball in Fort Myers, FL at Florida Gulf Coast University. The 6′0, 190 pounder from Tampa, FL has played in only 9 games for the Eagles and is hitting .143 with one home runs and two RBI’s.
White is a junior at Rollins College in Orlando, FL, where he is a teammate of Border Cats pitcher Garrett Yount. The 6′4″, 235 pound lefthander has appeared in six games and has an 0-0 record with a 3.86 earned run average. White, from Bellingham, MA has made one start for Rollins this season.
Lewis is a 6′2″, 210 pound left-hander from Gainesville, FL. He is currently a junior at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, TN. In 13 games for the Bulldogs this spring, Lewis is 2-4 with a 4.39 ERA.

(Thunder Bay, ON) The Thunder Bay Border Cats announced today the signing of
three players for the upcoming 2010 season. Joining the Cats are third baseman P.K. Kitamura, catcher Brooklyn Foster and pitcher Josh Deeg.
Kitamura is native of Hawaii, and plays his collegiate ball at the University of Hawaii. The 6′0″, 200 pound infielder is in his freshman season with the Rainbows. In 31 games this spring, Kitamura is batting .231 with one home run and 11 runs batted in.
Foster is the first Canadian born player to sign with the Cats this season. The 6′1″, 190 pound catcher hails from Langley, BC and is a freshman at Orange Coast College in San Diego, CA. Foster has played in 25 games this spring and is hitting .315 with 10 doubles and 11 RBI’s.
Deeg, from Lake Orion, MI, is a sophomore at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. The 5′10″, 160 pound righthander has appeared in 11 games for the Musketeers and is 2-2 with a 5.67 earned run average.

Thunder Bay announced today the return of two more players from the 2009 Border Cats’ roster with the signings of outfielder Garret Houts and first baseman Curtis Wagner. In addition, the Cats also signed outfielder Brad Felder for the 2010 season.
Houts, a 6′0″, 185 pound junior at the University of Southern California, played in 54 games for the Cats last season batting .247. The Fort Collins, CO native had one home run and eight runs batted in and was second on the club with 16 stolen bases.
Wagner also plays his collegiate ball at Santa Clara University. The 6′1, 200 pound left handed hitter, batted .259 last season in 39 games for Thunder Bay. Wagner, who hails from Manhattan Beach, CA added two home runs and 13 RBI.
Felder is in his sophomore season at The Citadel Military College in Charleston, SC. The left handed batter has played in 18 games this spring and his hitting .231 with four home runs and 13 runs batted in. Felder, a native of Bowman, SC, stands 6′1″ and weighs 200 pounds.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats announced today the signing of three players from their 2009 roster. Infielder A.J. Schugel, and pitchers Garrett Yount and Drew Erwin will be returning to Thunder Bay for the 2010 season.
Schugel, who is a sophomore at Central Arizona College, led the Cats last season with 33 runs batted in. The Highland Ranch, Colorado native played in 63 games, batting .261 with four home runs and tied for the club lead with 13 doubles. Schugel is expected to see most of his playing time at second base this season.
Yount is one of the tallest pitchers in the Northwoods League, standing at 6′8″ and weighing 225 pounds. The righthander is currently a sophomore and playing in his first season at Rollins College in Florida. Yount appeared in 15 games in 2009, going 2-2 with a 2.86 earned run average. Yount, who hails from Silvis, IL, started seven games for Thunder Bay and held opponents to a .237 batting average.
Erwin, from Alvin TX, set a Border Cats record by pitching in 38 games last season. The righthander had a 1-3 record with five saves and a 4.84 ERA. Erwin, a 6′1, 190 pounder is in his junior season at Nicholls State University in Louisiana.
