Bucks Catch Prowling Panther

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of infielder Brandon Williams for the 2010 season.  Williams is joining the Bucks as a sophomore from Georgia State University.
 
In the 2010 baseball season, Williams finished with a .412 batting average with 216 at bats, ten homeruns and 72 RBI.  In the field Williams had a fielding percentage of .981 with 383 put outs and 33 assists. 

In 2009 Williams was named to the All-CAA Third Team as a utility player after playing several positions for the Panthers.  Going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to help lead to the Panthers first-ever CAA Championship.

Bucks Wrangle Maverick for 2010

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of right-hand pitcher Luke Putz for the 2010 season.  Putz (pronounced Putts), a Lacona, Iowa native, comes to the Bucks as a junior from Minnesota State University.
 
This season for the Mavericks, Putz finished with a record of 1-1 and a 2.59 ERA.  He had 28 strikeouts and eight saves in 24 innings pitched.  The righty     had an opposing average of .248 with 21 appearances.
 
“I am very excited to join the Waterloo Bucks,” said Putz. ”I look forward to getting started and can’t wait to get to work.”
 
Putz attended Marshalltown Community College for two years from 2008-2009 and had a combined 8-8 record in 94 innings pitched with 108 strikeouts.   As a batter, he hit .340 with three homeruns and 36 RBI in the 2008 season.

One of the Herd Joins the Bucks

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Greg Williams for the 2010 season.  Currently, Williams is a sophomore at Marshall University majoring in Accounting.

This season for the Thundering Herd, Williams has not played due the rehabilitation of an injury, but is scheduled be ready for the start of the Bucks’ season.  In the 2009 season for Marshall, Williams started in 7 of the 14 games he appeared in.  The Cincinnati, Ohio native totaled 44.2 innings with 38 strikeouts and a 2-5 record.

“I’m looking forward to playing with the Bucks this season,” says Williams.  “I have heard nothing but great things about the Northwoods League, as well as the city of Waterloo.  I’m excited for the season to start.”

A graduate of Archbishop Moeller in West Chester, Ohio, Williams was drafted in the 31st round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He finished his high school career with the programs’ lowest single-season ERA and finished in top 10 for wins, ERA and shutouts. After high school Williams played one year of summer baseball for the Midland Redskins and was a member of the Midwest Redbirds Fall Scout Team.

Bucks Land a Sycamore

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of catcher Jeremy Lucas for the 2010 season.  Currently, Lucas is a freshman at Indiana State University.

This season for Sycamores, Lucas is hitting .315 with 19 RBI and a .425 slugging percentage.  Starting in 38 of the 41 games he has played in, the West Terre Haute, Indiana native has an on-base percentage of .387, 13 doubles, and eight stolen bases.

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to play for the Waterloo Bucks,” said Lucas.  “I have heard many great things about the organization and hope to contribute to the team’s success.”

A graduate of West Vigo High School in West Terre Haute, Indiana, Lucas was drafted in the 35th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.  Lucas was named to the All-State team following his senior year, finishing the season with a .490 batting average and 46 RBI during his senior season.

Bucks Sign Witkowski

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of pitcher Corey Witkowski for the 2010 season.  Currently, Witkowski is a sophomore at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida.

This season for Buccaneers, Witkowski finished with a 2-1 record and a 5.18 ERA.  Starting in nine of the 11 games he appeared in, the left-handed pitcher struck out 26 while walking 20 in 48.2 innings pitched.

Last season for Barry, the southpaw finished with a 6-0 record and a 2.52 ERA.  Witkowski struck out 39 while walking just 10 while holding batters to a .257 average.

A graduate of Flannigan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida, Witkowski finished his senior season with a 9-1 record and a 0.95 ERA.  As a senior, he was named to the first team All-Broward County and All-State teams.

INF Lowe Signs 2010 Contract

(Waterloo, IA) The , Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of Ellis Lowe for the 2010 season.  Currently, Lowe is a junior at Campbell University and is the 23rd player to sign with the Bucks for the summer.

This season for the Camels, Lowe is hitting .396 with three home runs and 36 RBI.  Starting all 41 games he’s played, the 6′1″, 190-pounder owns a slugging percentage of .577 and an on-base percentage of .431 with seven stolen bases.

“I’m looking forward to coming to Waterloo,” said Lowe.  “I’ve heard great things about the team and the community.”

Last season for Campbell, Lowe was a second team All-Conference selection and was the only Camel to start in all 51 contests.  Lowe paced Campbell with 90 hits, 69 runs, 62 RBI, and three triples.  Lowe became the second player in school history to have 90 hits in a single season.  He also was second on the team in batting average with a .404 mark.  Lowe led the Atlantic Sun Conference in hits and runs scored.

In 2008, Lowe won the Most Valuable Freshman award for Campbell and was selected to the 2008 Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team.  He batted .324 on the year with eight extra base hits.

A graduate of San Marcos High School in San Diego, California, Lowe was a two-time second team All-Valley League selection.  Batting .357 with 20 RBI and one home run his senior season, Lowe also was a two-time San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team honoree.

Purdue’s Spillner Solidifies Outfield

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of outfielder Tyler Spillner for the 2010 season.  Currently, Spillner is a sophomore at Purdue University and is the 22nd player to sign with the Bucks for the summer. Spillner joins Boilermaker teammate Ryan Bridges on the Waterloo roster this season.

This season for Purdue, Spillner is hitting .331 with 14 stolen bases and 25 RBI.  Starting in 37 of the 39 games he has played, the 6′1″, 185-pounder owns a slugging percentage of .497 and an on-base percentage of .416.

Last season for the Boilermakers, Spillner finished with a .289 average with five doubles, one triple, and one home run.  Spillner drove in 24 runs and scored 26 runs 43 games.  Spillner was also named to the 2009 All-Big Ten Freshman Team.

A graduate of Northrop High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Spillner earned four varsity letters in baseball and led the team with a .445 average as a freshman.  Spillner was All-Conference and All-Area in as a sophomore after hitting .475.  He batted .465 as a junior en route to being named first team All-State, All-Conference and All-Area.  Spillner was named All-Conference and All-Area for a third time after a senior season in which he hit .451.  In 2008, Spillner was a North/South All-Star Game participant, breaking a total of 10 baseball records at Northrop during his prep career.

Bucks Add a Catcher

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of catcher Jonathan Crist for the 2010 season. Currently, Crist is a sophomore at Youngstown State University and is the 21st player to sign with the Bucks for the summer.

This season for the Penguins, Crist is hitting .278 with a .407 slugging percentage in 27 games. The 5′11″, 175-pounder has started in 15 games and carries a .339 on-base percentage.

“I can’t wait to be part of a team with such a great tradition and fan base,” said Crist. “I’ve heard so much about the town and the team and it will be an honor to play for the Bucks.”

Last season for Youngstown State, Crist played in 27 games, starting 15. Crist finished with a batting average of .278 with six runs scored, seven RBI, and one home run.

A graduate of Pinnacle High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, Crist earned three varsity letters and was a team captain. As a senior, the catcher was named First-Team All Pima Region and ranked second in the 5A Pima League with five home runs and 29 RBI.

Bucks Sign Infielder Bridges for 2010

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced the signing of infielder Ryan Bridges for the 2010 season. Currently, Bridges is a sophomore at Purdue University and is the 20th player to sign with the Bucks for the summer.

This season for the Boilermakers, Bridges has seen action in 15 games, hitting .257 with six RBI. Last season for Purdue, the 6′ 0″, 215-pounder played in 12 games.

A graduate of Griffith High School in Griffith, Indiana, Bridges earned four varsity letters and was a four-time all-conference and all-area honoree. Bridges earned first team selections to the all-conference and all-area teams as a sophomore, junior, and senior. He also served as the team captain and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Game as a senior.

Bucks Add Infielder to Roster

(Waterloo, IA) The Waterloo Bucks have announced that infielder Chase Jaramillo will be joining the team for the 2010 season. Currently, Jaramillo is a junior at Nicholls State University and is the 19th player to sign with the Bucks for the summer.

This season for the Colonels, Jaramillo is hitting .272 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 31 games. On March 9, Jaramillo was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week for his efforts in which the shortstop hit .611 with two home runs and 12 RBI.

In 2008 and 2009, Jaramillo played for Alabama Southern Community College, hitting a .340 with eight home runs and 19 steals as a sophomore. A graduate of Crestview High School in Crestview, Florida, Jaramillo earned four varsity letters in baseball.

Originally from Andalusia, Alabama, the 6′0″, 185-pounder was born on October 15, 1987.
